My dear friends, Andy and Chandra Westafer, left Thanksgiving night to head to the hospital and welcome their baby Andrew. They had some routine blood work Friday morning before starting her epidural. The results were ever so slightly off, so the doctor called for an additional test and the news shook this family to its core. On what was supposed to be the happiest day of their lives, the day they started their family and welcomed their baby boy the heard the words that no book can prepare you for; Chandra you have cancer. Chandra was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The plan immediately changed and she was transferred to Northside Atlanta for an emergency c-section. Precious baby Andrew was born that Friday night healthy and happy.
The next day Chandra was transferred to the Bone Marrow Unit at Northside where she has been off and on ever since that day. Several rounds of chemo later she is preparing for a Bone Marrow transplant in a few weeks.
We all say Baby Andrew saved Chandra's life. Had it not been for him, who knows when they would have determined she had leukemia. Had it not been for that doctor ordering that one extra test, who knows. You see, miracle after miracle, this family has the grace of God placed upon it.
Chandra is a biology teacher at Duluth High School and well respected in her school community. As you can imagine their medical expenses are astronomical and continuing to grow. Please consider purchasing a raffle ticket to support this amazing woman as she works her butt off to fight this thing and become cancer free.
