The Officer Harold Vitale Memorial Fund is proud to support U.S. Secret Service Special Agent Garrett FitzGerald during our 22nd annual golf tournament on August 1st.
For those of you who do not know, on Dec. 29, 2015 four Secret Service agents traveling on Route 16 in Wakefield, NH were working a campaign detail when they were hit head-on by another car. Secret Service Agent Garrett FitzGerald, the most seriously injured, was left paralyzed from the chest down. The driver of the other car died on the scene. Special Agent FitzGerald was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital and was later moved to Spaulding Rehab to begin a lengthy rehabilitation process for the treatment of the spinal cord injury he suffered. Special Agent FitzGerald continues to rehabilitate on an out patient basis.

For over 20 years, the Officer Harold Vitale Memorial Fund http://vitalememorialfund.org has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and provided grants to survivor outreach programs organized to help survivors cope with the sudden loss of a loved one in the line of duty as well as provide scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Since inception, our grants and scholarships total nearly $600,000! Once again we’ve set an ambitious goal to raise over $100,000.
Last year the Memorial Fund made grants and scholarships totaling over $35,000 to Concerns of Police Survivors National (COPS), www.nationalcops.org the NE Chapter of COPS Kids Program www.newenglandcops.org and provided 5 scholarships bringing our total to over 110 since we began the program over 22 years ago.
