Dennis J. Smith (Denny) died of ALS in 2007.  Before his death his nieces and nephews established the Dennis J. Smith Legacy Foundation as a tribute to Denny.  The Foundation aims to promote the values Denny exhibited throughout his life, such as serving his local community, promoting education and helping the less fortunate.  The Foundation provides scholarships to students at Bishop McNamara High School in Kankakee, Illinois and Kankakee Community College and supports the Les Turner ALS Foundation in Chicago, which is committed to ALS research and care.  All raffle ticket proceeds support these great causes.
