Help Us: With your support we would like to raise enough money to offer free after-school enrichment therapies (MNTR Youth Cirque & Remo HealthRYTHMS drum & vibration classes) to low-income deaf, hard of hearing & Apraxic children.
Our Mission
It is our mission at "A Thousand Signs" to supply and create
inspiring spaces & opportunities for deaf, hard of hearing & Apraxic
children. http://https//www.facebook.com/pages/A-Thousand-Signs/734934966543652?fref=ts
Who We Are & What Brought Us Together
Julia Ginocchio-Luniewski, known by friends as
"Jules", is the founder of "A Thousand Signs". Her husband Henry, is Carter
Beauford's drum tech & the DMB stage manager. Henry has been with the band
for 24 years. They have four young boys. The youngest, 4 yr. old Jude, suffered
bile poisoning at birth that robbed him of his natural ability to speak. Jude's
family decided rather than exhausting themselves by seeking compensation, that
their son would be better served if they put their time, talents, passions &
resources towards making sure all children have the right to be heard and an
artistic avenue to do so. A Thousand Signs is made up a volunteer team of
friends, family, Dave Mathews Band crew, & DMB fans. 100% of our funds go
directly to our cause. Our promotional & raffle items are either donated or
bartered. We are a "family" of artists, so advocating for arts enrichment, where
there was none, was the natural step. The DMB road family has embraced Julia's
new life's work & has afforded us the platform to get exposure at the shows.
With much gratitude we will have our last raffle of the DMB 2015 Summer Tour
concluding at the Colorado Fiddler's Green shows August 28th & 29th. Many of
the items will be on display at our booth in the Reverb EcoVillage. We will have
four volunteers (Julia, Jennifer Brown Ha, Michael Burns & Brandon Golston)
on hand to help spread the word, showcase the prizes & process in-person
raffle ticket orders. We would love to meet you if we haven't already. Please
stop by & show your support!
Who Benefits From Your Contribution
St. Rita School for the Deaf serves nearly 170 students ranging from 6 weeks
to 22 years of age with speech and hearing {dis}ABILITIES. SRSD is the last
independent deaf school in the U.S. & the only school with a exclusive
curriculum for Apraxic children. In their 100 year history the school has never
turned a child away due to their parents’ inability to pay. To ensure this noble
promise is kept, all funding is directed towards the core cirriculum, special
services & scholarships. Today the school is faced with many challenges, as
are the students and their families. Families with money have the option to buy
the gift of sound with cochlear implants, many of our students aren't afforded
such a luxury. Nearly half of the student body lives below the poverty line. In
this academic environment, arts & enrichment opportunities are nearly
obsolete. With the help of DMB family, friends, fans and you, we can provide
complimentary after-school youth circus camps, Remo HealthRYTHM community drums
for rhythm & vibration therapies, a family resource center, an art studio,
restore the weaving guild & install much needed murals to the vast white
walls.
