It is our mission to supply & create inspiring spaces & opportunities to the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Apraxic children at St. Rita School for the Deaf. SRSD is the last independent deaf school in the United States. In their 100 yr. history they have never turned a child away for their parents inability to pay. For this admirable accomplishment to be continued it is necessary that all funding be allocated towards their core education & special needs services. With half the student body living below the poverty line, their exposure to the arts is nearly obsolete.

WHO WE ARE

My name is Jules. My husband Henry & I have four boys. Our youngest, 4yr. old Jude, has severe Apraxia & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Henry has been working with DMB for nearly 24 years. In his line of work we could live anywhere in the country, but choose to stay in Cincinnati because of St. Rita's School for the Deaf Apraxic program.  Before SRSD we were unable to understand his basic needs and wondered if we would ever hear him say "I love you".  We believe every child deserves a voice, and every parent deserves to "hear" their child. By providing them with a learning environment that visually reflects their radiant spirits & innovative learning programs; in addition to offering them arts enrichment opportunities, these amazing children will be better heard & seen in the world.

With the help of a local muralist, family, friends, Dave Matthews Band, fans, community volunteers, speech therapists & vocational students we have been able to install 3 floors of murals & decorate the early education/Montessori classrooms.

We have so much more work to do. We would like to offer the children community drumming & vibration lessons, detract from the institution's stark white walls with additional murals in the school's passage ways & stairwells, bring in signing youth circus instructors for after-school camps, build a resource center for families, beautify their outside play spaces, develop a school art's program, collaborate with deaf & "mute" artists & gift the children field trips to cultural arts places otherwise unaffordable.

By purchasing your chance to win signed Dave Matthews Band memorabilia, a "Carter jersey" and tons of one of a kind artworks & other rock n roll memorabilia you will be helping transform the lives of hundreds of deserving children.
