Jackson's Story

Jackson lived with his forever home an enriching three short years. He was four when he was rescued from a life of depravity and neglect. At that time, he didn't know what walks were for (his pads were pink). He didn't know how to bark. He was left on a balcony to only observe the life going on down below him, or sniff the air and wonder what those smells were. His new mom only could wonder what he had been through, as he would perch up with his front legs and just stare at her. Telling her his stories of the things he saw and smelled.

Eventually, Jackson learned why walks were worth leaving his soft bed for the day he discovered the squirrel. His beagle and dog lights came on in his head, and he started to understand and enjoy life as a loved dog. Mostly Jackson was happy to just... be. And those around him found healing with his calmness and sweet patience he had for life. He did things at his own speed, in his own way. A very sensitive creature, and one people found soothing to be around. Jackson was a healer.

Recently Jackson was diagnosed with disk disease. It's the equivalent to a human having a ruptured disk in the vertebrae. With some steroid medication the inflammation can dissipate, and normal dog activity can resume. Jackson ended up needing more, as he was not afraid to tell us with yelps of pain and obvious stress panting. Surgery was determined the best option, and he was a good candidate based off his health. At age 7, his normal take-it-easy demeanor and his blood work being perfect, Jackson still had lots of potential wonderful years ahead of him. His owners would stop at nothing to get him better. They loved him up lots, and let the nice lady take him in the back. Not knowing it would be the last time they would get to kiss those soft wonderful ears.

After surgery, Jackson took a couple extra days than normal for him to bounce back. He was being vocal to them also (please don't touch me anymore people). Beagles are known for being a little sensitive when all they want is to be in a soft warm safe space. They couldn't tell if he was in pain or just being a Beagle. When it was time to be picked up, a sudden phone call came in that derailed his release. At home his recovery space was all ready, and the mindsets of those who loved him couldn't wait to kiss him again. It had been 8 days since they dropped him off. However, something else had come up, and it was an emergency situation. Infectious fluid was found surrounding his lungs. Upon further inspection it was determined it was probably Foxtail. Because of his prior surgery, unrelated to the now emergency surgery, his system was beat down. He was in recovery already, and this second operation, a very serious invasive procedure where he had to be cracked open at the chest, was too much for him. His heart stopped during the surgery.

His owners wanted nothing but the best for Jackson for he brought them a new lease on life. To see with patience, to reflect Jackson's beautiful way of just "being" back to the world from him. To tolerate and to just take your time. As anyone who knows what it's like to lose their beloved companion, Jackson leaving this earth left a huge crater in the many lives he changed. It was an honor and a privilege to be in the same space, and to have shared this time with him.
The reality of the bills after all this is a hefty $8000. For the love of dogs, and music, we wanted to celebrate the life of Jackson. All proceeds to this raffle will go to making a dent in what is now called, "Jackson's Retirement."

So come on out and support the cause!
