At the start of the
season the goal for this year was to get twenty-five runners out, up from the
five to six over the last several years. We made that goal, and have a team comprised of a wonderfully eclectic
mix of students representing thirteen countries, speaking sixteen languages,
and ranging from your cheerleader to your thespian. Throughout the season we
were able to build a culture within Roosevelt where Cross Country became known
and respected. No longer is there a
question of whether Roosevelt has a Cross Country team. We ended the season with our team cutting on
average 1:24 minutes off from their 5K times. This is despite not having adequate running shoes (the majority of our
runners were running in a hodgepodge collection of donated used running shoes), warm-ups, and even our own uniforms.
In addition we were able to start
building a Cross Country program in our Middle School feeders, with over 50
runners. We will continue to build the
program by getting our runners involved in local races, attending training
camps in the summer, and working towards running scholarships to college. Money from this raffle will go towards:
- Running shoes
- Training camps
- Watches
- Water bottles
- Food for competition days
- Team t-shirts, sweatshirts, and bags
- Training equipment, including rollers and balance balls
Your financial assistance will only build on our growth, and provide opportunities for our runners to compete amongst other Portland Interscholastic League teams, as well as at the 6A level.
