St. Catherine’s rich
history began in 1886 when the Daughters of Charity established an orphanage at
Schuyler mansion to care for children who were suffering from an epidemic of measles.
Over 127 years, our services have evolved
and expanded to meet the growing needs of the community. Today, core programs include the R&E May
School and Day Treatment Program, the Marillac Homeless Family Shelter, the
Therapeutic Foster Care Program, the Residential Program and a broad array of
community-based services through our Prevention Program.
Over the past 10 years, St. Catherine’s has served more than
15,000 children and their families, primarily from the Capital Region but with
a significant number from areas throughout New York State. Our priority is
promoting emotional and educational gains for the children, facilitating
meaningful community connections for children and their entire families, and
assisting children to acquire the social and emotional skills to successfully
compete and participate in a changing and challenging economic
environment. An overarching goal for the
agency is that the children we serve and their families discover within
themselves their capacity to live independently with the hope that they will
one day contribute to society in meaningful ways.
