You may be aware that we have been supporting School for Life (SFL) since 2013. Indeed many of you have given generously in the past or attended the annual fundraising ball with me.
If you're not familiar with SFL, I first joined the fundraising committee in 2013, not only because of the phenomenal cause, to break the cycle of poverty by building sustainable, productive and profitable communities beginning with quality education - what a vision!! - But also, I was particularly impressed with the dedication and passion of Annabelle Chauncy OAM, Founding Director and CEO, to effect such dramatic change to the lives of hundreds of children and their families through education, healthcare and employment programmes in two communities in rural Uganda. Such a young woman herself to have achieved so much!
School for Life is a grassroots organisation that focuses on education, employment and skills training to lift entire communities out of poverty. Their first project is in rural Uganda where they have built two schools (with a third one being built in June), providing 560 children with quality education and nutritious meals, as well as entire communities with clean water, solar electricity, vocational training, agriculture and community outreach. Their impact has been huge in a very short time, affecting more than 2000 people through employment and education. They are creating a sustainable model for international development that can be replicated across the developing world.
The trek itself is focused on raising money to employ the best possible teachers for the schools. As it is a cause that we all feel passionately about, all 4 Burchers are in! We are putting our collective feet together and attempting to climb Kilimanjaro.
Our fundraiser is an online raffle with great odds and a great prize. A "1 in 100" chance of winning of a Cocktail Cruise for 30 people (all inclusive) on the magnificent super yacht Quantum! RRP $15,000.
