About Oklahoma Foundation For The Disabled
They offer specialized transportation service to and from a client’s home. They travel an estimated 14,000 miles each month throughout central Oklahoma and serve several other counties. Each bus and van is designed to accommodate the special needs of each client, particularly those needing wheelchair accessibility.
The clients enjoy numerous activities to stimulate both the body and mind which include board games, movies, dancing, scouting, field trips to museums, parks, plays/performances, arts/crafts, computer keyboarding, sports (pool, bowling and basketball).
Each holiday throughout the year is treated as a special occasion, with amazing foods, music and décor. During the day, each client receives a mid-morning snack, a nutritional lunch in a group setting, and mid-afternoon snack.
All staff are qualified and tested according to state regulations. Unique to the Foundation is the Thursday night dinner dance where clients gather to enjoy music, dancing, sports and a nutritious meal. The average attendance is around 140 people who are full of love and excitement.
Another important function of the OKFD is they provide respite to client’s caregivers, enabling them to take time away from hands-on care of their loved ones to accomplish personal tasks and obligations including income-producing jobs, grocery shopping and tending to the needs of other family members.
