Our raffle is all about raising money to build a school in a poverty stricken are of Jamaica.
November 2015, our ministry visited York Hill Basic School of Little London, Jamaica. We distributed our donations of school supplies and food to the students and teachers. We thought that two barrels of food and school supplies were all that they needed, however we learned that circumstances were far more unpleasant than we thought. Some students are sent to school hungry, teachers receive no pay at all, there are limited school supplies, and the school structure needs repair.
Principal Rosetta Drummond exclaims that she requests a small fee of $32 from parents to keep the school up and running. Sadly, most parents cannot afford the fee, as many of the families are poverty stricken. Fortunately, Principal Drummond never refuses to welcome any student, despite not being able to pay their school fees. But there is an issue that will someday prevent these students who cannot afford any of the other schools in Jamaica from getting an education. The Jamaican government requests Principal Drummond to add a nurse's office on to her school, which alarms her because York Hill’s funds are close to none. In fact, Principal Drummond and her staff receives no pay for themselves and manage the school out of pocket.
Our mission for 2017 is to build a nurse's office at York Hill Basic School to prevent the school from closing. We are also working vigorously to provide groceries for the school, to build a playground for York Hill students, and we are putting in our most effort to raise enough funds to pay all the teachers at York Hill. Will you help these adorable York Hill students? Join our raffle drawing!
