Even though I am miles away, Texas is my home and Houston is my heart. I have spent the last week checking in on family and friends, heartbroken to hear the devastation they are enduring.

Houston's Mayor, Sylvester Turner, has established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund that will accept tax deductible flood relief donations for victims that have been affected by the recent floods.

As an effort to do what I can for my fellow Houstonian's I will be hosting Hurricane Harvey Fundraiser and Raffle at Toes Beach, Playa del Rey on Saturday, September 2nd. All of the proceeds raised will be going directly to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

I'll be setting up early at Toes Beach, Playa del Rey with games (batman, volleyball, frisbee, ect. ), music, barbecue, and will be announcing raffle winners through out the day!

The raffle begins NOW and ends Saturday at 6pm.

Since I am well aware it is Labor Day weekend, I figured this would be a fun way to enjoy the beautiful cali weather and also raise money for the relief of Hurricane Harvey.

Even if you cannot make it out and soak in the sun at the fundraiser/raffle, you can still enter the raffle virtually, support Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund , AND potentially win one of many really great prizes!

If raffles are not your thing, no worries! Feel free to donate directly directly to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund established by Mayor Turner at the following link:

IMPORTANT!
Initially I was considering taking material donations.... but then, I read this online from multiple sources:

HOLD OFF ON MATERIAL DONATIONS

Donating food, clothing and household items can complicate and even hinder relief efforts, experts say. After Superstorm Sandy in 2012, for example, reports cited relief agencies not knowing what to do with the piles of clothing and other unsolicited items pouring in.

The U.S. Center for Disaster Information says such donations "require transportation — which is expensive and logistically complicated — and a pre-identified recipient on the ground who will receive the shipment, pay customs and other fees, sort and distribute the items."

Unsolicited goods, the agency says , are "never required in early stages of response, and they compete with priority relief items for transportation and storage."

It doesn't mean there will never be a time or place for such donations — check with relief agencies as time passes.
