Sinatra is a beautiful, smart, and vibrant 5 year old girl.  She was originally diagnosed in 2013 (age 15 months) with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Fifty days from the end of her treatment of ALL, she relapsed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
In May of 2016, she received a bone marrow transplant, and has since been thriving!  She was able to start enjoying a traditional childhood! She started kindergarten, was able to enjoy a vacation and her Make-A-Wish trip, and recently enrolled in gymnastics.  

We are devastated, shocked and saddened to share this update:

In September, Sinatra had a cold and her sinus area started swelling. We went to the hospital and had x-rays to check it out and things looked ok, even the doctors thought it was just sinusitis. After our visit to get labs in October (labs looked great) we were sent to do a cat scan to see what was going on with this swelling. This cat scan led us to an ENT doctor who wanted us admitted immediately. 
Sinatra went to the hospital and had a new port implanted, 2 bone marrow aspirates, 2 lumbar punctures and a biopsy of the mass which has left her face swollen. What we know currently is that Sinatra does not have AML in her bone marrow or spinal fluid. We are testing to see if there is ALL in the bone marrow. That is better news than what we found in the mass itself. When the biopsy came back they found both AML and ALL in the mass which is considered bi-lineage leukemia and presents a poor prognosis. We always knew this was a possibility based on her presenting both ALL and AML in the past but were crushed to hear this news.
Based on these findings Sinatra will start a very high dose chemo round immediately. The goal of this round of chemo is to get rid of the mass of leukemic cells and ensure that if there are any hiding in the marrow, they are destroyed. If and when this chemo puts Sinatra into remission we will then go for a second bone marrow transplant.
