Last year we brought you the Old Rip Van Winkle 25 year bottle raffle that raised $37,500 for Hogs for the Cause, a non-profit which raises money for families with a child suffering from pediatric brain cancer.  ( https://hogsforthecause.org/ )

As a result of this raffle and other fund-raising, Hogs dedicated and opened a hotel at New Orleans Children's Hospital this year to provide lodging for families with a child being treated at the hospital.  ( https://hogsforthecause.org/hogs-house/ )

THE CHARITY

Hogs for the Cause is an annual Charity BBQ competition in New Orleans, LA to raise money for families with a child suffering from pediatric brain cancer. It started 11 years ago on a whim and raised a few hundred dollars.

Over the next 10 years, the charity and event have grown exponentially and the administration of the charity proceeds has been turned over to Children's Hospital in New Orleans.

About two months ago, Hogs for the Cause cut the ribbon on a new hotel at Children's Hospital in New Orleans. The hotel provides 14 suites for families of patients at the hospital, something that was sorely lacking in the past.

Last year our team, Swineaux, raised about $40,000 that flowed straight through to Hogs. Swineaux is completely a volunteer effort. Hogs for the Cause has one employee, the founder, who had to quit his job to run the charity.

I have had an opportunity to see the real people who are helped by Hogs for the Cause, and, unfortunately, one of my close friends was the first person to use one of the hotel suites.

    This year Swineaux is raffling off a package which includes:

    The winner of this year's raffle will receive airfare, courtesy of Southwest Airlines, and hotel for two to Kentucky.  (You may include six total participants, but the raffle only includes free travel and accommodations for two.)  
     
    Once in Kentucky, we will have some activities planned for you, which will culminate in a tour and tasting at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. ( https://www.buffalotracedistillery.com/ )  You will participate in a VIP barrel tasting where you will get the chance to taste multiple barrels of Eagle Rare bourbon.  You will select the barrel you want, and sign the barrel top.
     
    After you leave, Buffalo Trace will get to work bottling your selected barrel.  Once bottled, it will have the typical Eagle Rare labeling, with an added label to indicate that the barrel was personally selected by you!  The barrel and bottles (typically about a 215 bottle yield) will be transported to New Orleans, LA where it can be collected by the winner.  (Generally barrel and cases come shrink-wrapped on a single pallet)
     
    The bourbon is nice, but the experience is the real prize!
     
    The personally selected bottles are great to promote a business for client gifts, gifts to friends and family, or just plain drinkin'. 

     

    Last year we didn’t anticipate the limited bandwidth for the Facebook Live drawing on the day of the event, so this year we are trying to anticipate the limitations of bandwidth with so many people in a small area.  

    This year the drawing will be held live in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Hogs for the Cause event on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.  The drawing will also be captured on video and immediately uploaded to the Swineaux Facebook page.  In addition, we will try to transmit via Facebook Live with some changes which hopefully allow us to live stream.

     

    This raffle description may be updated as we go to add details.

    DISCLOSURES:

    Winner must be 21 years of age, or older.  ID of winner will be needed to verify age.

    Likely time of tasting will be fall / winter 2019 depending on schedule of Buffalo Trace and Southwest Airlines availability.

    Winner need not be present to win, but encouraged to come support a great charity and enjoy some great food!

    Domestic airfare only.  International entrants are welcomed, but getting here and getting bourbon home are not included.
