(From the GoFundMe page - https://www.gofundme.com/chris-brawn) As many of you know my brother Chris was diagnosed with Lyme disease over a year ago. Chris was rushed to the emergency room because he thought he was experiencing the symptoms of a heart attack. By the time he arrived at the hospital, his muscles were spastic, he couldn't walk, he was slowly losing his vision, and along with the typical tight chest, he couldn't breathe except for short, labored breaths. Over the course of the next 2 months, Chris was formally diagnosed with Chronic Lyme disease as well as 3 other debilitating tick-borne co-infections: Babesia, Bartonella, and Epstein-Barr. Chris has fought these diseases without complaint, with courage, and on his own with the help and support from his girlfriend Beth and family. Unfortunately, his Primary Care physician was not Lyme literate and twice rejected his request to be tested for Lyme. He found a doctor who would listen and has undergone treatment for the past year. Unfortunately, although the treatment has a strong track record, it is not covered by insurance. Chris experiences later stage symptoms of these infections across the board which include chronic fatigue, nausea, severe brain fog, depression, and other complicated neurological symptoms due to his illness. Recently, the side effects of terminating these clever bacteria from his blood, muscles, tissues, and nervous system have rendered him unable to work. His employment is safe, but company policy is to place him on "reserve," which means health insurance is now out of pocket in the event of any non-lyme based issue or emergency. Also, all Lyme treatment has been out of pocket. Most days, he has been unable to complete many basic daily tasks without debilitating repercussions that linger for days, and sometimes weeks. Chris hasn't been able to function like his regular, fun-loving self in over a year. As many close to him know, he's been forced to cancel almost 100% of his plans and invites. Leaving the house to work when he's able before spending his nights and weekends conserving energy in hopes to get to work. Chris has dedicated an abundance of time in his life helping and supporting others; hosting fundraisers for sick children, donating to funds to help sick friends, walking in relays to raise money to support research for diseases like Cancer and Alzheimer's. Recently, he proudly watched his little brother of nearly 8 years from Big Brothers Big Sisters graduate from High School. Earlier this year, Chris took a job teaching in a special purpose school for students with Autism and special needs. He has always helped others and really looks forward to the day he can do it again. Now, more then ever, he needs our help. Let's help Chris recover worry free. As we all have experienced, bills and financial responsibilities don't stop because you are sick. I would love to support Chris in raising money to help him pay his medical and personal bills while he fights and recovers. Every dollar will help. Thank You!
