We are raising money for a new musical, “Birth of a Saint,” which highlights the life of devotion and ultimate sacrifice of Saint Maximillian Kolbe
Proceeds benefit Pro-life Charlotte and the new Seminary for St. Joseph's to be built on the grounds of Belmont Abbey, Belmont, NC.
“Birth of a Saint” tells the poignant story of Polish-born Saint Maximillian Kolbe (1894-1941), who unselfishly volunteered to die by lethal injection in a starvation bunker in place of a fellow prisoner, a stranger to him, in Auschwitz, the German death camp located in occupied Poland during World War II. As a boy, Kolbe experienced a vision of the Virgin Mary, which led him to a religious vocation with the Franciscan order and to the global mission of spreading Marian devotion. Kolbe humbly stated his ultimate goal was to become a great saint through his love of humanity. His path was one of pain and suffering, culminating in attaining his goal and living out Christ’s words: “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
The musical is based on the book, “Life of Saint Maximillian Kolbe, Apostle of Mass Communications,” written by William L. LaMay. Robert Wayne Hudack wrote the musical’s script, music, and lyrics. Both are residents of Charlotte, NC.
