Congratulations to our winner, Marilyn P from Mount Holly!
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR THEATRE ARTS PROGRAM!
HAMILTON is a hot ticket right now, and so is STAGESTRUCK--the award-winning high school theatre program at Stuart W Cramer High School in Gaston County, NC.
STAGESTRUCK doesn't just use students to make great theatre, we use theatre to help make great students! This photo shows the cast from our recent production of CINDERELLA. Everything you see--the set, costumes, props, all of it--was built by our students. Yes, they sewed the costumes, they built and painted the sets.
While we are committed to "Excellence In Action," we are also committed to building up the whole person. There is a place for everyone in STAGESTRUCK, regardless of experience, skill levels, or situations.
Our school is in rural Gaston County and serves students from all social strata, ethnicities, and religious preferences; yet we have a high percentage students' families with significant financial need. We've had high school students struggling to overcome a variety of obstacles from those who fight poverty daily, struggling with losing their homes, and students who have to work just to keep their lights on. They have a place to belong with STAGESTRUCK.
Less than 25% of high school graduates in our district go on for further education or training. Within our program, we help students formulate a dream for their futures and a plan to make it happen. We have several of our STAGESTRUCK graduates who are the first in their families to go on to college. And we have some who are using theatre scholarships to help pay for college to study things like neuroscience and law. The life skills learned and practiced in theatre have lifelong applications for success.
STAGESTRUCK doubles as the drama club and the producing arm of the school's theatre arts program. We present at least two major productions each year--a fall play and a spring musical. Our students work hard, and in the five years since the school opened we have won three BLUMEY AWARDS, high school versions of the Tony Awards for musical theatre. Or as Coach would put it, it's kind of like winning three state championships in athletics. We have also won numerous awards from the North Carolina Theatre Conference's Regional High School Play Festival.
In addition to our productions, we offer a series of Master Classes giving students the chance to improve their performance and production skills. Past Master Classes have included stage combat, acting Shakespeare, special effects makeup, and costume construction. This year we are planning classes on acting with masks to help prepare for our fall play, and more!
STAGESTRUCK is dependent on fundraising to offset production and show expenses, travel for competitions, and our training programs. We do not receive any funds from the school or our school district to operate. All our operating funds come from fundraisers and ticket sales.
Won't you join with others who support our program and make a difference in the lives of students?
We need your help! Buy a ticket and change a life!
