Monarch School has helped homeless children in San Diego for nearly three decades, and serves students grades K-12. Many of the children that attend Monarch School are referred to the school through homeless shelters, social service agencies and by word of mouth. The students of Monarch come from a variety of living situations, but none of them are stable.


Helping children graduate from high school is an important step towards developing a more secure future.  There is a clear association between educational attainment and chronic disease.  For example, in one study, high school graduates have a 23% less chance of developing protein in their urine than kids who don’t graduate!  Preventing kidney disease by helping kids graduate high school – this is why the Monarch School was chosen as the recipient of Balboa Gives Back program for National Kidney Month.

With our donations, we will be able to help disadvantaged and homeless youth in San Diego continue their education, with the chance to be the most healthy and successful they can be!
