When Ray moved from New Jersey to Houston I was confronted with many obstacles and noticed it was difficult to get my brother the help he needed and deserved. I also discovered there weren’t a lot of programs that helped people with Autism and the programs that do offer help receive limited funding.
Autism is more prevalent than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS. One out of 68 children born in the United States this year will be diagnosed with an Autism spectrum disorder. More than 3.5 million Americans live their lives somewhere on the Autism spectrum. There are 11.5 million adults with intellectual or developmental disability nation wide. The lifetime cost of care of someone with an intellectual or developmental disability is 1.3 million.
This experience has motivated me to make a change in the Autistic community. I began doing research and found a national non-profit organization by the name of Bike to the Beach. Bike to the Beach is a community made up of individuals, cyclists, local organizations, advocates, philanthropists, corporate companies and national partners all who participate in our mission to promote bicycle riding, raise funds and make an impact on the community affected by autism.
Bike to the Beach is an annual charity cycling event dedicated to raising awareness and funding for autism. This event aims to support over 3 million people effected by autism in the US and the tens of millions worldwide.
Bike to the Beach has greatly helped individuals with autism and their families by funding research, increasing awareness and advocacy.
I have created a team called Team Ride4Ray. On September 28th my self and Team Ride4Ray will be participating in The Texas Ride for Autism and Disability. We will be riding 100 plus miles from Houston to Galveston to raise awareness.
I am biking for autism this year to make a difference. And to get us one step closer to helping individuals with autism and their families gain the knowledge and the resources to achieve unlimited possibilities.
I am dedicating the ride to my brother Ray and all the other Rays in this world.
Team Ride4Ray has a team goal of $10,000 and hopes to crush that goal. Team Ride4Ray has been blessed with citizens and companies who have donated raffle items to help raise money for our cause.
There are a total of 16 prizes. Ticket prices are 1 for $5 and 5 for $20.
