Zinky's Quilts and Crafts is proud to coordinate these raffles to support the work of Sarah's Bag Ladies (SBL). Started in 2017, SBL is comprised largely of volunteers. Click HERE to connect with them on Facebook.

At this time, we are carefully and mindfully gathering with small groups  (social distancing, wearing masks, and engaging in hand-washing before and after). We are working with UTA students, small church groups and civic groups to process used grocery sacks into plastic yarn (plarn). We are also holding virtual workshops to show community members how to make the plarn and how to crochet it into mats.

These mats are being made in two(2) sizes - 3x6 foot mats with a carry strap are being made for the homeless served by The Salvation Army in Fort Worth. 2.5 x 2.5 foot mats are being used for two (2) pilot programs with animal shelters in Fort Worth and Mansfield, Texas.

These monthly quilt raffles help supplement this work with college students and volunteers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and to cover expenses such as printing, mileage and administrative costs.

COVID 19 CHANGES IN SERVICE: In addition to working on making mats for the homeless shelters and animal shelters, Sarah's Bag Ladies has added the work of sewing masks for the Salvation Army healthcare workers in Fort Worth and Arlington.

Some of the the funds from these raffles work to support the purchasing and distribution of fabric and supplies to make this process happen. As of this raffle, the folks in Sarah's Bag Ladies Mask Makers group has provided more than 800 masks to the The Salvation Army Fort Worth front-line healthcare workers who are delivering services to the most vulnerable of our community in the middle of this pandemic. They are helping the homeless, battered women, human trafficking survivors, veterans and more.
