In 2010 Colin Foote was struck and killed by a drug-addicted "Habitual Offender" who, after 19 previous driving violations, was still driving and ran a red light, striking at great speed and killing Colin as he crossed an intersection on a "Green Light" on his motorcycle. The ColinsLaw.Org organization's advocacy has resulted in two new driving laws being enacted to protect the public from dangerous repeat and "Habitual Offenders".
Most importantly, the organization has discovered through years of legal research and inquiry, that the state of Rhode Island had not, for years, brought to court a single, convicted "Habitual Offender" to be adjudicated under the required state statute. Recently in New Hampshire, seven people were tragically killed by a Massachusetts "Habitual Offender".
Through the efforts of ColinsLaw.Org, this lack of enforcement of the law, has finally received the attention of the new RI Attorney General and senior officials at the state DMV. Public support to ensure the state of RI finally complies with this important, life saving legislation, is of utmost importance and now our primary mission.
