The Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts Art Program for People with Special Needs is located at the Maynard Dixon Home and Studio, which is on the National Register of Historic Places in Mt. Carmel, Utah. During the months from May through October, the Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts will host special art workshops led by professional working artists. Organizations with existing programs for people with special needs as well as private individuals are invited to apply to this program. One-on-one instruction is provided for up to ten campers. Three group leaders, either from your organization or as assigned by the Thunderbird Foundation, will be required. Campers are given materials and instruction in a setting free from distractions and encouraged to explore the many artistic facets of the area. It is the Foundation's intention to provide experiences that enhance creative expression, thus improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. Arrangements have been made with the Mt. Carmel Motel for sleeping quarters for one night for up to thirteen individuals. In some cases, groups may be allowed to camp directly on the property. Organizations or individuals may receive an application by filling out the request form above. Upon approval, the group workshop will be added to our Events Calendar. Please note: If your organization is funded for such events a certain donation to the foundation is appreciated.
