Rising Above the Storms (RAS) is a 501(c) nonprofit that envisions a world where every child has access to education, love, and a successful future. It was founded by Alphonsine Anderson.
Rising Above the Storms strives to instill hope and advocate for at-risk and orphaned youth in underdeveloped areas of the world. Since we launched our first project in Rwanda in 2017, we have given disadvantaged children a chance at long term success and stability through awareness, education, and empowerment.
We believe in equal access for all, to education and basic needs, regardless of race, gender, language, or religion. With the funds raised during this raffle, we are working to provide after-school care, build computer skills, counseling, and basic needs assistance for youth.

Currently, like the rest of the world, Rwanda is reeling under the recent global events, and understandably, our kids are out of school and at home until further notice.
As published by UNICEF: "Without urgent action, this health crisis risks becoming a child-rights crisis. Disruptions to society have a heavy impact on children: on their safety, their well-being, their future."
During this crisis, problems that forced the children to the streets in the first place (before we met them) are amplified: hunger, lack of love & discipline at home, poverty, family dispute, parents/guardian’s loss of job, social isolation. An opportunity to go to school or our Center normally minimized the exposure that those kids had to their fragile living. This is a major concern for our team. We fear that they will return to the streets if nothing is done quickly.
