Last year, in its inaugural year, the David J Machado Golf Memorial's tournament, Take a Swing FORE ALS, was a smashing success - we had a great day of golf, remembered and honored David and raised over $25,000! We are so proud of the success of the event, and so thankful to everyone who helped us achieve such a remarkable accomplishment! The money we raised went directly to research for a cure for ALS (through ALS TDI) as well as to the ALS Family Charitable Foundation which provides resources and services to ALS patients and their families.
Our 2020 tournament date was booked for August and we set our goal to raise $30,000. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit us in the spring, the future of our 2020 tournament seemed uncertain. The board of DJM Golf Memorial made the decision to postpone the event to October, hoping that by the fall, life would be back to normal. Well, life isn't completely back to normal, but we are still able to have a modified version of our tournament, and for that, we are very thankful.
This year there will be no raffle and no dinner guests. We raised a sizable about of money last year with our incredible raffle and support from our dinner guests. This year, we decided to start our 50/50 raffle early, in hopes that some of those who supported us last year through donating raffle items or buying dinner guest tickets would instead purchase 50/50 raffle tickets.
