Capture.PNG 631.58 KBIn 2007, a group of young men, raised together in Virginia Beach, decided they wanted to find a way to give something back to the community and formed the Virginia Gentlemen Foundation. When Chris Thompson, a founding member, received news that his brother, Josh, was diagnosed with ALS, the Virginia Gentlemen decided to make the fight against ALS their goal as well.
In 2008, the Virginia Gentlemen partnered with ALSA in the local Walk. What started out as one team in the Hampton Roads ALS walk became the National ALS Association’s largest single day walk and fundraiser. So far, the JT Walk has raised millions for ALS research and patient services, as well as community projects such as JT’s Grommet Island Beach Park & Playground for EveryBODY, the “Grombulance” kid-friendly medical transport for Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, and development of JT’s Camp Grom.
2020 and COVID-19 has brought some major changes to everyday life, but what has not changed is the need for continued research and fight for a cure of this devastating illness. These programs, and the valuable contribution they make, desperately need our support more than ever.
