AWRC.PNG 891.02 KB The Alexandria West Rotary Club (AWRC) is a small but mighty club in the West end of Alexandria. Over the years AWRC has devoted to serve and help the community and those in need. This holiday season, AWRC has committed to assist the So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E.) organization and METAvivor. S.O.M.E. is a nonprofit organization that provides food, clothing, and healthcare services to the poor and homeless in Washington, D.C. They also provide counseling, affordable housing, and other services to help break the cycle of homelessness. METAvivor is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the specific fight of women and men living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. At the time of METAvivor’s founding, no organization was dedicated to funding research for the disease and no patient groups were speaking out about the dearth of stage 4 cancer research. The event honors Engie Mokhtar's, Past President of AWRC, own battle against stage IV metastatic breast cancer. As “Fighting Disease” is one of Rotary International’s 6 Areas of Focus, AWRC is committed to supporting the funding of cancer research.
Proceeds from the raffle will help fund the initiatives by these two great nonprofit organizations as we approach the winter months. If you are unable to purchase tickets but still want to support our cause, you can visit our website to submit a donation, www.awrotary.org.
