In June of 2020, Mark was diagnosed with a giant macroadenoma that has caused acromegaly and a prolactinoma on his pituitary gland. These are 2 types of tumors that have greatly affected his life. The giant macroadenoma produces excessive growth hormone, which causes a person’s bones and organs to continually grow. Think Andre the Giant. The prolactinoma produces excessive hormones that cause low bone density, reduction of other hormones produced by the pituitary gland, and vision loss. Mark has so far been experiencing all these symptoms. He has been taking medication to shrink the tumors for a few months, but two weeks ago we were told that the pills are no longer working. The tumor is now 4.2 cm and causing hydrocephalus (water on the brain), which now requires surgery.
A week after we scheduled the surgery, his place of employment notified him that he was placed on unpaid medical leave, and that his insurance will no longer be active and usable until he returns to work. While his unemployment and my pandemic assistance covered us for the duration of the pandemic so far, his unemployment is on hold, and my PUA has expired. Once his unemployment is back up and running, it’ll be enough to cover some bills, but far from covering his medical expenses! The surgery is scheduled for February 25,2021. We need funds as soon as possible so that the surgery and any subsequent treatments can be paid! Unfortunately, this will be something he will be dealing with for the rest of his life, since the Dr. said she’s not sure she will be able to remove all the tumor. It may require more surgery and radiation therapy in the future, on top of hormone therapy.
Join us on Saturday, February 20 @ 6pm for Food, Live Music, Silent Auction, 50/50 Raffle & MORE! ALL proceeds to benefit Mark Taylor. Thank you for helping to raise funds for the surgery he needs to kick this tumor out of his life so that he may continue to have the chance to do great things!
