A huge thank you to all of the local businesses, families and friends that have made such a positive impact on this years event. Despite the many challenges we faced this year due to the pandemic's circumstances, we are so beyond grateful to be able to help Kaiya and her family. We are incredibly thankful for everyone that made it possible!

Kaiya Barber
 
Kaiya is our 16 year-old daughter.  She has two brothers, 13 year-old twin boys - Brody and Ty.  When Kaiya was about 6-months old the Chief of Neurology at CHOP (Philadelphia) told us that Kaiya would never walk.  But the doctor also explained that the brain, however, has a plasticity type quality and it would be very important to get Kaiya involved in a variety of therapies to help her achieve her maximum potential.  

Kaiyapalooza is a very special event that has changed our lives.  Many of the therapies, doctors, surgeries and equipment that Kaiya has received over the years are not covered by insurance, but the success of Kaiyapalooza has made them possible. Such things as Kaiya riding a horse, once a week for an hour, since she was under 2 years old.  Also, Kaiya had eye surgery that was not covered by insurance, which enabled her to expand her world past a two foot limit.  She will not wear glasses so before the surgery she could only see clearly for about two feet in front of her.  Post surgery - she now has 20/20 vision.  There is no better feeling than locking eyes with kaiya and having her smile at you.  All of these things are made possible because of Kaiyapalooza.
 
Kaiya loves music, dancing, riding her tricycle, riding horses and making people smile.  She is a very determined and tough girl who doesn’t give up and when thrown from a horse she gets right back up on that horse – literally. Kaiya is our little angel who has touched more lives than we could ever have imagined.  Kaiya has taught us about determination, sacrifice and the power of love.  She has taught us what is important in life.  She has been through quite the journey and there are days we feel like we have been to hell and back but Kaiya makes all the ills of our day go away with a smile and a hug that is heavenly.
