Sun Cities 4 Paws believes that every cat deserves appropriate care and quality of life, whether medical or social, and regardless of age, until it is no longer a viable option for the cat due to their deteriorating condition(s), at which time we provide hospice care. We have provided our Senior Foster program since 2008 and have had hundreds of older and special needs cats with medical conditions requiring extra care placed into loving permanent foster homes. We evaluate and medically treat these cats for various conditions, while working to place them into permanent foster homes. After the cats are placed, we continue to monitor and provide any needed medical care. Cats respond better in a home environment, and the people caring for them establish a loving bond with the cat and know that we will continue to provide for their medical needs.
The benefits of this program are twofold, the cats find permanent foster homes, which in turn allows us to intake (save) more cats. For the cats that we are not able to place into foster homes immediately, they are kept at the shelter, in spacious enclosures or in free roaming rooms, so we can continue monitoring and providing any necessary treatment, until we can find fosters to care for them.
