Dakota Matthews was a 2011 Thornton Academy graduate, avid hockey player and local barber who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in September 2020. His family established this non-profit fund to ensure other young athletes can pursue their dreams. The Matthews family knew firsthand the joy and value of sports, but also the financial strain it could cause.
The Dakota Matthews Memorial Fund aims to alleviate that burden for local students, providing them with the resources they need to participate. To further honor Dakota’s spirit of generosity, the fund also supports Make-A-Wish of Maine.
Over the years, we’ve consistently supported youth sports by covering soccer and T-ball fees, providing essential equipment to budding athletes, and sponsoring young hockey players with the Biddeford Youth Hockey Association.
