Thank you for supporting the Native Village of Eyak's 28th annual Sobriety Celebration & Potlatch. This three-day event includes a traditional potlatch as well as traditional singing, dancing, drumming and artisans from many Native communities throughout the region. The idea for the Sobriety Celebration was based on tapping into traditional methods of healing. This year's theme of “Holding Hands with the Spirits” is about a celebration of sobriety!
Liam Riedel, winner of this year's Logo contest, describes his design saying "I made a human being eclipsed by animal spirits. Holding hands with the human [are] raven, eagle, bear, wolf and orca. Despite being a tribe small in number, with much of our heritage destroyed by colonialism, as long as we're alive our ancestors are too; and our connection to a grander existence and experience will always be there to empower us and our culture's survival into the future."
