My beautiful and amazing 13 yr. old daughter, Brooklyn Isabella, is a country music loving, photo taking, dog lover, big truck cruising, God loving, paint spattering, creative soul. To those who do not know Brooklyn she appears to be the picture of health. What they cannot see is the pain she has suffered after many years of medical problems. We searched for answers to her daily pain and received the diagnosis, Elhers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Fibromyalgia. EDS is a connective tissue disorder that affects virtually every system in your body. It causes faulty collagen (basically the glue that holds the body together). Brooklyn's tendons and ligaments act like rubber bands (stretchy) and are unable to hold her bones and muscles together. She suffers from partial joint dislocations, digestive problems, chronic fatigue, dizziness, bladder control, anxiety, depression, and problems with other internal organs contributing to pain radiating over her entire body daily.
There is no cure for Brooklyn's condition, if left untreated her health both physical and mental will continue to deteriorate. There is HOPE! through the right help and support her EDS can be managed, allowing my beautiful daughter to have a future full of possibilities. There are a lot of therapies, variety of treatments, and many other things we can do to improve her quality of life. I am on a mission! To help Brooklyn gain access to all of these.
A major thing I hope to achieve through your help is a therapy dog for Brooklyn. I already have the deposit ($500), total cost to purchase is $2,500, hoping to get additional funding for the intensive training required for a therapy dog ($3,000-$4,000), altogether the cost will be between $6,000-$7,000. Her dog will be trained to provide stability and support when walking so there is less pressure on joints, retrieve dropped items, alert an adult when Brooklyn is in pain, has dislocated a joint or has fallen, brace when walking up and down stairs, accompany her at school, be an integral part of her ongoing physical therapy, respond to fear/anxiety at all doctor appts, blood draws, and medical procedures, sleep next to her and alert us if anything happens in the middle of the night, and most of all- be her ultimate companion to love a support her through the hard times. We see this as a BIG positive addition to managing her health both physically and mentally. Plus, it will give Brooklyn independence she has not had lately.
Please help us reach our goal by sharing our fund raiser with friends, families or businesses.
*Any extra funds raised will go directly to Brooklyn’s medical fund for all of her ongoing medical bills and treatment.
