Lincoln Jaramillo, 3 years old
Lincoln (“Linc”) is the middle child of a family of 5. He has two older brothers, Rowen -6 and Eli -11. His younger brother, Maddox, is 2 years old. He is loved greatly by his mother Shana and father Josh Jaramillo. He is a happy, energetic young boy that loves zombies and catching bugs but for the last 6 months, he has been in and out of the hospital undergoing chemotherapy.
On January 4, 2021, Linc was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive brain tumor - embryonal tumor with multilayered rosettes (ETMR). He had been mildly sick on and off starting in April 2020 that worsened in September and continued to spiral. Many of the visits were virtual due to the pandemic but in January, enough was enough. Shana was able to schedule an in-person appointment where a doctor prescribed an MRI. The MRI outlined a tumor located in his right frontal lobe of the brain. He was rushed to the pediatric intensive care unit at Los Angeles Kaiser Permanente. After 8 hours of intensive surgery, the surgeons were able to remove the tumor with good margins. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and will continue onto radiation therapy. Recently he was diagnosed with hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) which is a common complication of high dose chemotherapy. It has been a rollercoaster to stabilize his white blood count and his platelets. Despite experiencing the nauseating effects of chemotherapy, Linc maintains a positive outlook for his day. He enjoys playing games on the nurses such as hiding his toy cockroach for them to find.
Linc’s journey has been very rough on him and his family as well. He is currently staying full time at the hospital with his mother, Shana. She quit her job in January to be able to care for him full-time. Her husband has been working diligently to support their other 2 children at their home in Lancaster, California. With the support of their families and their community, they have high spirits that Linc will return home to play with his brothers. They are asking for thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Gift cards for food are appreciated to support this family in their time of need.
