Big River Aviation LLC of St. Louis completed the restoration of this beautiful Piper J-3 Cub Trainer in August 2022.  Upgrades included recovering with Stewart Fabric Systems STC and installation of a Continental 85 horsepower engine, overhauled in 2018, and a McCauley metal climb prop, overhauled in 2022.  (See the full restoration details below.)

The aircraft does not have an engine-driven electrical system so it is exempt from transponder and ADS-B requirements, however, it DOES HAVE the convenience of an installed battery, an electric starter, and a USB power port to power the provided Sporty’s PJ2 Handheld COM Radio or your tablet or smartphone for navigation.  No hand propping needed!  Simply plug in the battery tender every few flights.

The aircraft has no known damage history and we have the original logbook that begins at the date of manufacture.  There are significant gaps in the logs prior to the restoration and two extended periods when the aircraft was not in use.  All detailed logs are available since the complete airframe restoration and engine and propeller overhauls.

We will be flying the aircraft during the raffle period so the winner will receive a proven aircraft, with approximately 100 hours on it since total restoration and all the little bugs will have been worked out.  A fresh June 2023 Annual/100-Hour Inspection will be completed prior to presenting the aircraft to the grand prize winner.

RENOVATION DETAILS:
The total aircraft restoration began with complete disassembly and inspection of the airframe for any cracks, corrosion, or other defects.  The interior of all tubes was treated with boiled linseed oil to prevent corrosion.  The fuselage and all flight controls were primed with epoxy-chromate primer and painted.  The wood fuselage formers were replaced with aircraft grade wood and were varnished.  The aircraft was recovered with Stewart Fabric Systems and painted, and the wings were installed with new Univair sealed struts.  Of course, all new hardware was used throughout the aircraft.

The cabin received a new floor, seats, cushions, and seat belts.  The new instrument panel received a new Cub-faced altimeter, airspeed indicator, rate of climb indicator, and tachometer and a new compass.

Other new aircraft parts included new control cables, pulleys, turnbuckles, elevator trim bushings, landing gear bungees, Scott tailwheel steering springs and chains, wheel bearings, races, and new Grove disk brakes.

In addition to an overhauled 85 horsepower Continental engine and McCauley metal propeller and spinner, it received new fuel and oil lines, a new sealed battery with a battery minder, a new starter, new slick magnetos and harness, a new exhaust system, and a newly overhauled Marvel Schebler carburetor.

YOU COULD BE THE WINNER OF THIS BEAUTIFUL RESTORED AIRCRAFT!
