At just ten years old, my nephew Dante was diagnosed with Acute Mixed Phenotype Leukemia June 2018. Imagine being a straight A honor student, to not being able to attend school for the last 6 years and in isolation with the rest of your family! Despite six years of treatment, including various surgeries and chemotherapy, he faced a setback when Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) which resurfaced in January 2023. Last year, Dante underwent a bone marrow transplant on May 31st, 2023, but unfortunately, to our disappointment we did not get the expected results. Now, he's preparing for another transplant this summer. His mother, who's been tirelessly caring for him daily hospital visits and home care, is unable to work due to the severity of Dante's care plan.
