10ForStrays is a private initiative based in Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia.
10ForStrays aim to reduce the number of strays or abandoned pets in the street by getting
them neutered and vaccinated before they start to pro-create.
With the help of volunteers, we largely focus on catching, neutering/spaying and returning pets back to their owners or adopting the strays to new, loving homes.

But right now, we are being faced with an extreme case.
On March 10, 2022 a dog suddenly appeared at the roadside in Kuching. She was discovered by a good Samaritan together with another feeder.
On that morning, they brought the dog into a shade away from the heat and sun.
She was crippled, malnourished and had a huge tumor in her left eye with the right eye having a smaller tumor.
She is believed to be involved in an accident that crippled her. While her back nerves are still functioning, her legs are immobile. She will need to have a wheelchair later once her cancer treatment is over.
After being rescued, she was slated to be euthanized. But it was soon determined that with proper treatment, there's a chance of her making a recovery.
This beautiful girl has been named Ava Maria, and was checked into City Vet Clinic to try and see if she can be saved.
Here are the results…
🐾 A blood test was performed, showing her to be anemic
🐾 No tick fever but has severe TVT (cancer) on her left eye
🐾 Vet said that her back leg injury was some time back and not recent. So he did not do any X-rays on her.
🐾 Her right eye is almost blind. The TVT must subside before the vet can determine if her left eye can still be saved with a surgery.
She was given the necessary vitamins and antibiotic injection. The doctor also warned us that her body may react negatively to the TVT shots and so she needs to eat good food with high protein. He estimated that she will need about 8- 12 TVT injections and hopefully by then, the tumor will subside.
If you see in the photo, there is also a lump on top of her head. The Dr said that it could be due to the TVT but he wants to observe her first for now if it will become smaller after the TVT injection before deciding on the next course of action.
We visit her regularly at the clinic and bring her tasty food with high protein and vitamins to boost up her health.
Ava Maria is making progress, but will continue to need special care and attention for the rest of her life, including a wheelchair.
The doctor’s medical fee (her injections are at least RM120 per injection and she needs 8-12 injections), her boarding at the clinic thus far, and medical care will run into thousands. Later if the doctor deems it fit to operate on her left eye, it will be a few thousand dollars more.
