K9 Up Project Free is a 501c3 for retired K9s. It is our mission and purpose to aid the U.S. retired military K9's, contract K9's, law enforcement K9's, or any working breed that needs placement. Prior to 2000, retired service dogs were nearly always euthanized. Even though Robby's Law, which passed in 2000, now allows handlers to adopt their service dogs at retirement, it has not been enough to eradicate euthanasia. There is a gap in resources to help these amazing and brave K9s adjust and be retrained to be civilian pets, and that is what we are solving.
The other component of the K9 Up Project Free program is to provide rehabilitation options for felons and be an active contributor to reducing recidivism. As we expand our reach to help as many deserving K9s as we can, we are raising money to bring our new facility to fruition. Our new facility will provide purposefully developed spaces where our K9s will receive therapy services, restorative physical therapy/massages, benefit from a holistic diet, and most importantly, a place to recuperate and retrain that is safe, loving, and well managed. To deliver the environment we know they need and deserve, our second focus is to employ people from the community with backgrounds, which make it hard for them to gain employment. We will teach them successful management skills to give them the unique opportunity to care for and work with both retired K9s and working K9 breeds.
