All proceeds go to a non-profit formed to help Native youth who are at risk. Those youth could live on the reservation or in the city. They could be full or part Native. The ones in need usually have parents who are absent or addicted/alcoholic. The suicide rates for Native kids are shocking right now. There were 16 attempted suicides in one day in Walthill!
The way that the kids will be helped is through mentoring and empowering the kids to decide what to ask for. In other words, the funding is flexible and does NOT go to the parents or Tribal leadership. It could be helping them get school clothes, a backpack, and supplies, paying to participate in sports or to attend a Powwow, etc. Studies show that connecting these youth with their culture increases self-esteem and lowers the rate of addiction and suicide.
The winner will be randomly drawn at 7pm Saturday, June 25, 2022. Turner Park 3110 Farnam St. Omaha, NE 68131
