In July of 2022, I lost my beautiful Mom, Ginny Loescher, to stage 4 urethral cancer. I feel her loss every day, and know she is laughing her trademark laugh somewhere, watching over my children and our family with love. I'm so grateful that after her initial stage 4 diagnosis in May of 2020, we were able to get an additional 26 months with her. We will forever be indebted to the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Urethral cancer represents less than 1% of all cancers diagnosed, and the five year survival rate is less than 13%. My Mom fought like an absolute warrior until the very end, and her strength and grace inspire me always.
In memory of my Mom, and to celebrate her third heavenly birthday December 9th, I created a 64" x 80" Heartspun Quilt (pattern by Modernly Morgan), and I am selling raffle tickets through this platform, so that the winner can gift this beautiful quilt for the holidays to a loved one. 100% of the money made off of the raffle tickets will be donated to the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD to fund research into treatments of this horrible disease. The Brady Urological Institute took wonderful care of my Mom, and gave us more time with our beloved matriarch. I wanted a meaningful way to honor my mom's legacy, and I wanted to transform my grief into something I could give back to spread goodness in this world.
This year's quilt was inspired by Harry Potter, and the fabrics chosen for the patchwork hearts are actually pulled from the covers of the various book covers. They also feature a theme of stars, owls, keys, moons and more. This quilt would fit right at home at a shop in Diagon Alley. The backing of the quilt is a plush minky, in rich emerald green color. I imagine if someone were attending the Yule Ball, this would be an excellent fabric choice, and the star constellation patterns on the back are a nod to Professor Sinistra's Astronomy class. This quilt is the perfect gift for the Harry Potter fan in your life, and will be cherished for years to come as they snuggle up to watch their favorite Harry Potter movie marathon or read their favorite books. The gold thread that was free hand quilted in the hearts of the pattern is a nod to the free flowing flight path of the Golden Snitch.
This year, raffle tickets are one for $20, or if you pay $100, you will receive 10. The quilt is complete and pre washed, and ready to ship. Will arrive in time to gift for the holidays!
I am so grateful for all of the support our family has received, and continue to be humbled by your love.
I love you for always, Mom. All for one and one for all. Happy Birthday!
