Each day on average, 30 Black Americans are killed by guns and more than 110 experience non-fatal injuries. These trends worsen in large cities, where Black Americans make up 68% of homicide victims.
Since losing his younger brother Jarrod Michael Lockett, to senseless gun violence, Justin Lockett realized that his purpose in life was greater than himself and in 2013, he founded the Jarrod Michael Lockett Foundation to educate families about the effects of gun violence, how to properly have preventative conversations, and provide outreach programs within the community supporting families who are victims of violent crimes. The Foundation has since provided community outreach programs to include: scholarship opportunities, Christmas giveaways, back-to-school drives, volunteering with local schools, the Special Olympics, educational trips, and other events.
With violent crimes growing out of hand in his community, Justin felt compelled to do more for young men ages 10-18, and in 2017, created The “League of Legacy” Mentoring Program. This program focuses on uplifting and empowering young men to become the best versions of themselves. The "League Of Legacy" is building strong communities by building strong men.
Our program focuses on respect for self and others, excelling in the classroom, community service, financial literacy, and confidence building. With the support of donors like you we have gone on many outings to include The Civil Rights Institute (Birmingham, Alabama), The Civil Rights Museum and Lorraine Motel (Memphis, Tennessee), Human and Civil Rights Museum, CNN, Coca-Cola, and Dr. King Memorial (Atlanta, Georgia), The Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justive (Montgomery, Alabama) The White House, The US Capitol, The US Supreme Court, National Museum of African American History and Culture, Holocaust Museum (Washington D.C.), NBA, MLB, and NFL Games. We hold events where we have brought in special guests to include motivational speakers, Police Officers, Military Leaders, Community Leaders, and Professional Chefs etc.
