Fort Clark Springs Raffle

Fort Clark Springs Community Council is hosting its semiannual Gun Raffle! We are offering participants the opportunity to win either a new Ruger SFAR .308 or Shadow Systems MR920 Elite, the first place WINNER WILL PICK ONE of the above options. The second place winner will win a Walther P22 Tactical. Third place will win a Leatherman, Rebar Multitool. Only 100 tickets will be sold, and the winner will be contacted by phone and email. The raffle will conclude when all tickets are sold or by end date. Winners are generated using an automated system provided by Raffle Creator. The guns are currently located at D&D Hardware (our local Federal Firearms License holder) in Brackettville, Texas. The winner will have to pick up their gun prize in person at D&D Hardware, all other prizes can be mailed. Participants must be at least 18 years old for rifle option and 21 years old, or older for pistol option. (Texas Residents Only). Guns awarded as prizes will be distributed through licensed dealer and only in compliance with federal and state laws and applicable local ordinances. If a winner is ineligible to receive a prize under relevant state, federal, or local laws and regulations, the prize will be forfeited and no substitution will be provided.

Raffle Intent:
Proceeds from the raffles will seek to improve community standards. Some previous examples of proceeds went towards AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators), CPR Training, and uniforms for our security guards. We thank all the participants for their contribution and support of our community!

 Fort Clark Springs

National Registry 
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Fort Clark was a U.S. Military fort in operation for almost 100 years, from 1852 to shortly after WWII.   Many buildings contribute to this designation, both Association and privately owned, as well as remnants and ruins from the Fort's nineteenth-century frontier days to the twentieth-century days of World War II. 

Established
Fort Clark was established June 20, 1852 at Las Moras Springs by two companies of the First Infantry under the command of Major Joseph H. LaMotte along with an advance and rear guard of U.S. Mounted Rifles (later the 3rd Cavalry). Located at the headwaters of Las Moras Creek, the spring, named "The Mulberries" by Spanish explorers was a site long favored as campgrounds for Comanche, Mescalero, Lipan, and other Indians.

During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, the big spring was a stopping place on the eastern branch of the great Comanche War Trail into Mexico. The original site was a strip of 1 to 2 miles in width extending from Las Moras Springs downstream about eight miles. In 1849 Lieutenant W.H.C. Whiting, during his reconnaissance for a practicable route between San Antonio and El Paso, recognized its military potential and recommended the location as a site for a fort. The land was leased from S.A. Maverick. Two Companies (C and E) of the First Infantry encamped near the Springs. Later, the garrison was moved up the hill from the Spring. By 1853 quarters for the soldiers were nearly completed and in 1854 three grass-covered officers' quarters were built. In 1855 a stone hospital and a two-story storehouse were erected.

    The SFAR combines the ballistic advantages of .308 Winchester with the size of a traditional MSR. By utilizing superior materials and engineering, the SFAR is bigger and stronger where it needs to be and remains smaller and lighter than comparable .308-sized rifles. 


    Utilizing many mil-spec-compatible components and fitted with the Ruger® Elite 452® trigger, the construction and operation of the Ruger SFAR will be familiar to the millions of Americans who have already adopted traditional modern sporting rifles. The upper and lower receivers are both CNC-machined from 7075-T6 forgings and feature an oversized magazine well, forward assist, dust cover and brass deflector. Barrels are cold hammer-forged with 5R rifling, a 5/8"-24 muzzle thread, and finished with black nitride for accuracy, longevity and easy cleaning. CNC-machined from high-strength super alloy steel, the bolt and barrel extension feature tapered lugs that strengthen the breech by adding material in key areas. 


    SFAR rifles are fitted with a 4-position regulated gas block to achieve ideal function across the wide range of ammunition available in the marketplace today, whether running the rifle dirty or clean, suppressed or unsuppressed. The included, on-board 3/16" ball-end wrench makes for easy regulator adjustment, while the 2-port Boomer muzzle brake makes the SFAR exceptionally soft shooting. 


    The handguard features Magpul® M-LOK® accessory attachment slots at the 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00 positions and sockets for QD sling swivels on both sides. Model 5610 features a 16" barrel, a mid-length gas system and a 15" Lite free-float handguard whose top rail has been docked in the middle for improved grip access and lighter weight. Features include a Magpul MOE SL® stock, MOE® grip and ship with one, 20-round Magpul PMAG® magazine.

    The MR920 is a feature-packed, compact-sized pistol that is designed to work with existing Glock 19 holsters, magazines, and gear. The match-grade barrel is conventionally rifled and spiral-fluted to improve evacuation of debris. MR920s are also available with threaded barrels. The drop-safe, flat-faced aluminum trigger has a 4.5-5.0 lbs trigger pull and a crisp, tactile reset. Optic cut models allow shooters to mount the mini red dot optic of their choosing. This pistol comes with a factory mounted Holosun 507C.
