The Animal Welfare League needs our help!

The Animal Welfare League Inc. of Richmond was created in June of 1944 by a group of women who were concerned about animal welfare in the Wayne County area. In service for nearly 70 years, the Animal Welfare League has the longest running animal shelter in operation serving the Wayne County area. They are a no kill shelter.

Recent Update from AWL:

Not only are we needing supplies, but the County is most likely going to stop their funding of the shelter. This was a big surprise to us.  The funding we did receive from the County was about 1/3 of our actual need.  We also relied on fundraising and donations from the kind people of Richmond and beyond.  We now need more help than ever.  We have around 43 dogs and 40 cats who are in need of homes.  We will face closure, if the County proceeds to cut funding.  We now only have 2 paid employees for the entire shelter to clean, feed and run the shelter.  We had to cut one employee who has agreed to volunteer.  We need our community more than ever to stay open so we can at least find homes, rescues, or fosters for all of these animals.  We are a no-kill shelter who is facing extreme circumstances.  Thank you in advance for all your help.  We appreciate the donations more than you know.
