Food waste is a HUGE problem. An estimated $4 billion dollars in food is thrown out on planes simply because of arbitrary laws. Food waste creates methane gas which contributes to climate change. In the US, Canada, UK, and other countries like Australia, all food MUST be incinerated upon landing because lawmakers are scared food contains diseases that may transfer to others. Even things like cups near food must be thrown out. Some caterers say this is unnecessary as an outbreak of a disease has never occurred in the last 50 years due to aircraft food. However, Project Isaiah takes unused food from airlines and catering companies such as Delta and GateGourmet, and serves it to those in need.
