The Learning Trail Inc., a North Carolina 501 (c) (3) corporation, is sponsoring a raffle for a chance to win a $10,000 gift card that can be used , at the winner’s choice, at either the Pinehurst Resort, the Kiawah Island Resort or the Greenbrier Resort. Each of these world-renowned venues offer multiple championship golf courses and a wide variety of lodging accommodations, dining options and non- golf amenities and activities.
The gift card can be used to pay for any category of expenses relating to the winner’s stay at one of the three resorts, including golf green fees, cart and caddy fees, lodging, meals, spa treatments and other non- golf amenities, and/or merchandise. At the winner’s discretion, each gift card can be redeemed during one or multiple visits to the resort selected by the winner. A gift card to the Pinehurst and Kiawah Island Resorts has no expiration date and a gift card to the Greenbrier Resort must be used within five years of issuance.
Each raffle ticket costs $100 and a maximum of 300 tickets will be sold. Ticket sales will close on the earlier to occur of 11:59 pm on July 10, 2026 or the date on which all of the 300 raffle tickets have been sold. The raffle drawing will be held and the winner will be announced on July 11, 2026. Anyone wanting to purchase a raffle ticket by personal check, rather than a credit card, should contact
[email protected]. A receipt will immediately be issued with respect to each ticket purchase and it is possible that the receipt will be in a spam folder.
All proceeds from the raffle in excess of the cost of the raffle prize will be used to fund the meaningful academic and social support programs that The Learning Trail provides, free of charge, to pre-school through middle school low- income Hispanic children and their parents living in the Nature Trail mobile home community in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The IRS requires raffle winners to pay federal taxes on raffle winnings at the time of the award. Per IRS rules and in order to protect and enhance the $10,000 value of the gift card to the raffle winner, The Learning Trail will pay to the IRS, on behalf of the winner, an amount equal to approximately $3,150 ( a grossed-up amount reflecting the taxes on the $10,000 gift card and the taxes paid on behalf of the winner). This amount may or may not be the actual amount of federal taxes that the winner will owe on the raffle prize. The winner should consult their own tax adviser concerning their specific situation.
