The Prizes
Celtic Illuminated Gospel Book
A fully illuminated Gospel book in the Irish/Anglo-Saxon style of the Book of Kells and Lindisfarne Gospels. This Gospel illumination was a project I have wanted to do for years, and I was thrilled to be able to finally bring it to fruition in 2022. The text of the Gospels is the Clementine Vulgate Latin with a marginal Douay-Rheims English verse-by-verse translation. It features all four canonical Gospels with 4 full page evangelist icon illuminations, 4 cross carpet pages, 4 incipit pages, 13 full page illuminations showing scenes from the life of Christ, and several dozen illuminated initials and miniatures throughout the text.
The binding is medieval-style hardcover in rich, dark goatskin leather featuring raised bands on the spine and Anglo-Saxon style blind tooling on the cover, along with gold edged pages and bookmark ribbon. It measures 11.5" by 8.7" by 1.7", 524 pages.
This coloring book features the story of the Gospels, condensed and told for children, along with decorated initials and full-page illuminations to color. The designs are in the Celtic style of the Book of Kells and Lindisfarne Gospels, adapted from my full length illuminated Gospel book. It is 32 pages long, with 14 full page illuminations, several miniatures, and dozens of initials. The binding is saddle-stitch stapled with textured gold foil decoration on the cover.
A giclee print of an original illuminated manuscript art piece of John 8:12. 8" x 10" print size, Insular painting in the style of the Book of Kells with watercolors and gold calligraphy ink for the halo, and Uncial style calligraphy.
