I took the plunge to become a full-time self-employed artist two years ago with crowdfunding illuminated manuscript-style books of classic literature. It’s been awesome, and I’m going to keep producing publishing projects. But this year I need to make a shift.

Crowdfunding launches are exciting but unpredictable. Most of the funds go straight to printing, materials, and shipping. Selling extra copies helps, but it’s too sporadic for long-term sustainability for supporting a large family.

So instead of focusing on one-off projects, I’m leaning into something older and wiser: patronage. Most people like the idea of supporting traditional artists, but high-level patronage isn’t realistic for normal families. I asked myself: What would affordable, meaningful patronage look like today?

My answer: subscriptions that give real value back to your family. So I built a menu of options rooted in Arthurian legend, medieval book arts, and hands-on creativity. They start at $5/month, with various levels so there’s something that fits different ages and capabilities.

The part that’s most important to me, though, is offering something that goes well beyond passive content. These are projects designed so kids can color them, they can build them, they can create alongside them. They get into enter into story and craft heritage on a first-person basis. Everything I create is first for my own children, but built so any family can join in and grow with it over time.

If you’ve ever wanted to support traditional handcraft, calligraphy, illumination, and living heritage stories in a truly affordable, meaningful way, these subscriptions are made for you (and your kids). Your patronage would mean the world to us as a family business. Our goal this year is 500 subscribers so we can pay the bills and establish a stable baseline that will allow us to manage and prepare the publishing projects more efficiently. We still have around 400 subscription slots available, so this giveaway drawing is to help us reach our goal. The first 500 Arthuriad subscribers we get (including the ones who signed up already) will be automatically entered into the drawing. Come see what we’ve built:

Even if you can’t subscribe right now, sharing helps other families discover us. Thank you; it really does mean a lot!
